‘Securing’ the future for all Australians

As a people-orientated business, with a national presence, servicing a diverse range of industries and customers, MSS Security and its employees see a great deal of the Australian community – including those who sometimes ‘need a hand’.

It is with that in mind, the MSS Security is proud to foster two social initiatives.

Workplace Giving Program

‘Australians helping Australians in need’ is the philosophy behind MSS Security’s Workplace Giving Program (WGP).

Since the WGP’s launch in July 2014, MSS Security and its workforce have put this into practice by raising more than $30,000 for four selected charities – Alzheimer’s Australia, The Big Issue, Black Dog Institute and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Those four charities were chosen because they represent a large cross-section of Australian society which many of MSS Security’s 5000+ employees can relate to.

WGP provides financial assistance to the charities through regular employee contributions. Staff chose the charity(s) they wish to support and the amount they can afford to contribute, which is automatically deducted by payroll, before tax. These contributions can be as low as $5 per pay period.

Every dollar donated by employees is then matched dollar for dollar by MSS Security.

MSS Security’s employees have also got to know the WGP charities better by volunteering for a number of events around Australia.

For instance, MSS Security’s General Manager for South-East Queensland & Defence and Finance Director, took part in CEO Selling Week for The Big Issue in February.

They soon developed a real appreciation of what The Big Issue vendors experience every day, while trying to sell the magazine to people on their busy commutes.

Internal awareness campaigns and presentations also help educate MSS Security’s employees about the valuable work of the WPG charities.

Indigenous employment

MSS Security has recently furthered its commitment to boosting Indigenous employment by signing to the Australian Government’s Employment Parity Initiative (EPI).

The EPI aims to increase the number of large Australian companies with a workforce that reflects the size of the Indigenous population. Specifically, it is seeking to have an additional 20,000 Indigenous people employed by 2020.

Under the EPI, MSS Security has committed to placing a number of indigenous employees in sustainable work over the next four years that is at a rate well above the Federal Government’s 3% parity target.

The EPI was launched in February at Parliament House, Canberra, by the Federal Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Nigel Scullion, and R.K. Sinha, the owner of Security Intelligence Services Group, India, MSS Security’s parent company.

Since the EPI’s launch around 30 Indigenous candidates have been employed by MSS Security or are working through the recruitment process.

Ongoing training and mentoring for Indigenous employees at all levels of the business will be critical to the EPI’s success. However, with commitment from all levels of the company, client support and strong partnerships with Indigenous businesses, MSS Security looks forward to achieving its EPI target.

MSS Security’s commitment to Indigenous employment began in 2014 with an employment and training program in Western Australia. It not only doubled Indigenous employment in that state, some contracts achieved 10% Indigenous participation.
