Cyber Security in focus at the Security ASIAL Conference

Every organisation is vulnerable to insider threats from its employees. Yet in reality, many organisations fail to put in place measures to protect themselves from insider threats and have been badly damaged as a result. Many struggle to recover from financial losses and reputational hits, not to mention the impact on morale after someone betrays everyone’s trust.

This session will address intentional and unintentional insiders who can cause harm to your organisation. The panel of industry experts will discuss strategies to manage, detect and prevent threats from an enterprise-wide approach.

Key Topics:
Broad areas to be discussed include:
• Strategies to manage – key elements of building a strong risk-aware security culture.
• Strategies to detect – discussion of what to watch for – changes in behaviour, significant life changes, changes in work performance or habits, security violations, attempts to access sensitive information.
• Strategies to prevent – practical steps you can take to prevent becoming a victim of an insider threat ie encourage reporting of suspicious activity, conduct regular audits and assessments, monitor user behaviour, limit access to sensitive information and systems to those who absolutely require it for their role.

Data breach class action litigation is one of the primary areas that keeps businesses up at night. Factors such as the emergence of cloud-based storage, the shift to remote work, and the escalation of sophisticated cybercriminal activity have threatened data security. As a result, the number of data breach class actions lawsuit filings in the United States doubled in last year, going from 604 in 2022 to a whopping 1,320 in 2023. The financial impact is equally daunting, as the top 10 data breach settlements totaled $515.75 million. Now is the time for security professionals to understand what safeguards can be implemented to best their organizations from class action lawsuits.

After attending this seminar, attendees will;
1) understand the global data breach class action landscape
2) develop mechanisms to prevent data breach class action litigation
3) leave equipped with strategies to best defend against data breach litigation

The escalating reliance on satellite technology for communication, navigation, and national security necessitates a heightened focus on space cybersecurity. The potential repercussions of a successful cyber-attack on these systems extend from disrupting communication networks to causing physical damage. This presentation delves into the challenges of securing space systems, emphasizing the global impacts and the imperative for international collaboration. Satellites, crucial for modern communication, can impact various industries; a disruption in communication networks could have severe consequences across banking, healthcare, transportation, and emergency services.

Each panel member has a unique lived experience and pathway to the profession of cyber security. The panel will consider the definition of diversity in the cyber security industry, the various types of diversity such as cultural, gender, neuro, educational and career diversity, and the importance of diversity in fostering success and innovation in teams. The panel will also discuss the challenges they have faced when working in non-diverse teams, and what security organisations can do to achieve diversity in the workplace.
