Cognitec’s automated passport control product FaceVACS-Entry features in eight ABC gates (eGates) at Venice Marco Polo Airport, in order to facilitate expedited control checks at the international terminal.
The project was delivered by N-Aitec which is the airport IT provider and system integrator. N-Aitec provides vital information on solutions such as turnkey solutions, complete and customised, following organisational and technological evolutions that airports can implement when new regulations occur.
As the traveller enters the eGates, FaceVACS-Entry will detect the person’s face; adjust the position of the camera accordingly to the person’s height to capture best-quality images for verification. The software instantly verifies the live images against biometric photos that are stored in passports or other ID documents, which results in the gate doors to open.
Since the rollout of the new innovation in July 2015, more than 600,000 passengers have used the self-service eGates for the immigration process. Venice airport now sees a growing number of travellers favouring the speed and efficiency of the automated procedure.
“We are receiving positive feedback from eGate users,” says Corrado Fischer, COO at SAVE, the Venice Airport management company. “We started with two gates in 2015, and now a total of eight is placed in the arrival and departure areas, as we experienced their high reliability and impressive throughput—this is why we are planning to further increase the number of eGates and offer a better journey experience for all our passengers.”
Cognitec are showcasing their face recognition technology at the Security Exhibition including the FaceVACS-VideoScan. FaceVACS-VideoScan recognises people’s faces in live video streams and video footage compares them to image databases and instantly finds known individuals.
