The National Broadband Network (nbn) is a high speed broadband network currently being rolled out across Australia. Retail service providers such as Telstra, Optus etc. provide the telephone and internet plans to access the nbn to deliver services like telephony, entertainment, security and e-health services. To make this happen, the nbn will use a range of broadband technologies, However each of these new technologies can have its own challenges for the installer.

An nbn connection means thinking about the technology and interconnections, where internet equipment is installed in a home or business so the faster broadband speeds work properly to deliver services. No matter which type of technology is used to deliver the nbn it is crucial that the home and business wiring has been well planned. If you are cabling a new or renovated property the most important principle is that all cabling should be "star wired Cat 6 cable" from a central location where the nbn equipment will ideally be installed.

This session will help demystify the nbn and outline the skillsets security technicians need for the future.
