Counter Terrorism and Special Tactics, NSW Police Force
Assistant Commissioner Mark Walton, Australian Police Medal (APM) joined the New South Wales Police Force in 1984. Over his 35 year career he has performed various investigative, strategic and operational command roles.
He was promoted to Assistant Commissioner, as Commander of the Central Metropolitan Region in 2017, where he was responsible 14 Police Area Commands and over 2,500 police personnel. The Region has a residential population of approximately 1,500,000 people, and includes the City of Sydney, Australia’s largest city, hosting the movement of over 1 million people daily.
In 2019, Assistant Commissioner Walton commenced as the Commander of the Counter Terrorist and Special Tactics Command. This command seeks to prevent the preventable, disrupt terrorist planning and action and respond to high risk and terrorist incidents. The Command works closely with state and federal partners, constantly assessing intelligence, conducting investigations and engaging the community to prevent acts of terror.
