Dr John Coyne

Dr John Coyne is Director of Research and Director of National Security Programs at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, where he advises governments and industry on navigating strategic competition in an increasingly contested economic and security environment. A former Australian Army intelligence officer and senior strategic intelligence practitioner with the Australian Federal Police, he brings deep operational and policy experience across defence, law enforcement and national security.
John specialises in economic security, supply chains and critical infrastructure, with a focus on how states and markets interact under pressure. His work helps leaders align policy, capital and capability to manage continuous, concurrent and cascading risks.
A Winston Churchill Trust Fellow, he is known for delivering clear, decision-focused analysis that enables organisations to act with speed and confidence in complex environments.
