Locally, Brett served as President of the Macarthur Law Society (2014-2018) and the Greater Narellan Business Chamber (2018), and in 2019 was appointed by the Attorney-General of NSW as the Law Society representative on the board of the Legal Aid Commission of NSW (2019-2021). Brett is currently a proud board member of United Way, a charity that focuses on improving early childhood literacy across Australia.

Brett has served on the Council of the Law Society of New South Wales since his election in 2018. In that time, he has served as Treasurer, Junior Vice President and is President-elect for 2024. Brett has also served as Chair of the Audit, Risk & Finance Committee; Deputy Chair of the Professional Conduct Committee; and member of the ADR, Diversity & Inclusion, and Family Law Committees.
