Approaching New ID Card Printing Products with a “Green” Perspective

Jul 4, 2017

According to a recent Neilson report, the commitment from consumers to pay more for products and services by companies that pledge to contribute environmental and social change increased from 55 percent in 2014 to 72 percent in 2015.

As the nation continues to live and work in an increasingly ‘green’ world, HID Global has fallen in line by introducing the FARGO® PolyGuard™ LMX Overlaminates for use with the FARGO® DTC5500LMX ID Card Printer and Laminator. The unique environmentally friendly feature provides a ‘wasteless’ approach to ID Card Printing and Laminating.

The new FARGO® PolyGuard™ LMX Overlaminates effectively utilises the ‘tear-off’ method – therefore the carrier film is eliminated. Wasteless lamination has proven to be very cost-effective; reducing lamination consumables costs as much as 50 percent whilst maintaining durability.

With the increasingly environmentally conscious consumer trend, HID Global is proud that the design change has resulted in a 92 percent reduction in post-consumer waste.

The previous design of HID Overlaminates used a plastic-firm carrier and two spools for handling the overlaminate patches. In this older design, lamination patches are adhered to a strip of clear film known as “carrier film” that connected between two spools. Using the traditional lamination method ends up producing a considerable amount of waste – especially when there is a high volume of cards needed to be produced.

The new generation of lamination provides ‘wasteless’ lamination which will contribute towards creating a ‘green’ world. This printer has been GreenCircle Certified for a 66% reduction in energy consumption and features for 10x improvement in heat-up time response, reduce carbon footprint and meet the growing demands of an environmentally responsible market.

HID Global, the trusted source for solutions and expertise related to the creation, management, and use of secure identities for end-users around the world, returned to exhibit at the Security Exhibition & Conference in 2017.
